A 13-year-old who made headlines this month for sitting exams three years early is pushing ahead with his plan to become one of the city's youngest university entrants.

Kenneth Kan Man-fung, who attends Raimondi College in Mid-Levels, was the youngest student to sit the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examinations this year. He scored an A, five Bs and a level 5* in English.

A spokesman for Hong Kong University of Science and Technology - to which Kenneth applied by e-mail this month - confirmed yesterday that professors had met him this week.

'I do not think this could be termed a formal interview, but his application was certainly discussed,' the spokesman said.

He said Kenneth had gained 'quite good' results in the British International GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) exams, scoring five A*s, one A and a B.

'Our basic requirement is for six A*s, so he has fallen short by a narrow margin,' he said. 'But that is not our main concern ... At this tender age of 13, will he be able to fully adapt to college life?'
