Almost 70 pop stars from the mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and overseas will take part tomorrow night in a glittering closing ceremony, whose theme song was revealed on the internet.
Forever Friends was listed on the official website of Italian record producer Giorgio Moroder.
The website said the 41/2-minute song was composed by Moroder and Chinese musician Kong Xiangdong. Kong also confirmed on his personal blog Forever Friends would be performed during the closing ceremony.
Earlier reports said Spanish tenor Placido Domingo and Song Zuying, a PLA major general and the favourite singer of former president Jiang Zemin, would perform the theme song together.
China News Service said a cast of almost 70 stars had been enlisted to ensure the closing ceremony was a big and glittering party. It said Hong Kong movie star Jacky Chan would lead 68 pop stars from the mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong in a song called Beijing Welcomes You, while a Yunnan folk song Please Stay, Guest from Afar would be performed by nine singers, including Andy Lau Tak-wah, Stefanie Sun, Karen Mok Man-wai, Nicholas Tse Ting-fung, and Joey Yung Cho-yee among others.
Pop stars Jay Chou, Lee-Hom Wang and Rain Jeong Ji-hoon are to perform the chorus.
Bocog officials said no closing ceremony rehearsals would be performed inside the 'Bird's Nest' because it would still be in use for the men's marathon tomorrow afternoon.
