After updating my Microsoft Office suite to the 2008 version, the software I've been using to create bibliographies, EndNote, no longer works. What is wrong and what should I do?

DQ: This problem is annoying but not complex. Apparently, EndNote relies on Visual Basic to do what it does and Office 2008 for the Mac does not yet support Microsoft's event-driven programming language. There are rumours this could change, but when is anybody's guess. Luckily for you, EndNote seems to have come up with a solution that is available for download from endnote.com/ support/CWYW_Word_2008.asp. (I do not use EndNote, so I cannot say if this solution works.)

You can also use various types of free software to manage bibliographies and references when you write articles. I strongly recommend you try BibDesk (bibdesk.sourceforge.net). I have only tested it for a short time but it seems powerful. Best of all, it also works with the TeX typesetting system. What I like about BibDesk is you can find books on the internet and add them to the database without having to type everything in yourself. The new iPhone looks fantastic and its user interface is terrific, but there seems to be a lot missing. I can neither forward text messages nor delete selected text messages. Is there anything out there that can help?

DQ: This column gets a lot of questions concerning the iPhone and for the most part, because of the risks involved, they cannot be answered. The iPhone's program was not designed to be played with unless you are a relatively good software developer. Apple simply decided it did not want people 'fiddling' with it. Naturally, that has not stopped people from trying.
