Chris Ip Ngo-tung, a political journalist at the Wen Wei Po newspaper and a DAB member, filed his nomination yesterday, taking the total contenders for the seat to five.

His father is DAB veteran Ip Kwok-chung, a former vice-chairman of Yau Tsim Mong district council and the twin brother of the party's vice-chairman, Ip Kwok-him. Ip Kwok-chung was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star by the government in 2006.

Chris Ip said he was not joining the race for his father. 'I personally proposed to stand in the election after serious consideration,' he said, 'DAB is also making way for young people to enter politics'.

Austen Ng Po-shan, of the Association for the Democracy and People's Livelihood, who was defeated in November's district council election, is also standing in the by-election.
