Step aside Uri Gellar: Ran Isozaki can do a lot more than just bend spoons with her mind. Enter the mysterious world of psychic phenomena in new anime Telepathy Shojo Ran Jiken Note.
Written by Atsuko Asano, this was originally a mystery novel series akin to Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys. It was adapted into manga form by Toshitsugu Ida for serialisation in the anthology magazine Shonen Sirius. Animation production for the show is by TMS Entertainment who previously produced Angel Heart and Itazurana Kiss.
Ran Isozaki is a spirited and perky young girl who has just started middle school. Her best friend Rui, who grew up with her, is a talented artist.
As Ran begins middle school, she starts to hear a voice in her head but chalks it up to her imagination. But she soon realises the voices really are telling her something.
One day, a mysterious girl comes out of nowhere and attacks Rui, disappearing as quickly as she appeared. Rui and Ran hear that strange and deadly accidents are occurring all over the city but nobody knows who or what is causing them.
The next day, a new transfer student called Midori Naha joins Ran and Rui's class - she turns out to be Rui's shadowy attacker. Midori also has strange powers, and when she uses them in the attack on Rui, Ran is subconsciously driven to use her own psychic powers for the first time.
