What do you think of fire standards in old buildings?

The fatal blaze in Mong Kok on August 10 led to the deaths of four people, including two firemen.

The firemen showed great professionalism and bravery. Without the efforts of the firefighters, more people could have been killed or injured.

It has been reported that the fire-safety equipment of many old buildings is not up to standard ('Building's fire risk cited before fatal blaze', August 14).

We have to try to prevent such tragedies from happening again, so it is important that work is done to improve fire-safety standards in old buildings.

In some of these old buildings there are cafes, book stores and karaoke nightclubs operating that do not have the appropriate licences.

Without licences, it is more difficult for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department to check whether adequate fire-prevention equipment has been installed in these premises.
