A Japanese canine movie full of melodramatic twists and turns, 10 Promises to My Dog is the standard soppy tale of friendship between man and beast - in this case, a girl and her dog.

Directed by Katsuhide Motoki, the film stars Mayuko Fukuda as 14-year-old Akari, whose childhood and adolescence are lit up by her pet Socks, a golden retriever given to her by her ailing mother (Reiko Takashima).

Also accompanying Akari is the girl's guitar-playing friend Hoshi (Ryo Kase) and her dad Saito (Etsushi Toyokawa), who gives up his surgeon's career to take care of his daughter.
