Hotel prepares for surge in new business

The Hyatt in Hong Kong and the mainland is surging ahead in the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions business (MICE) thanks to its contemporary facilities and innovative conference venues.

This is in preparation for the expected increase in MICE business resulting from the major trade events which will be held in Hong Kong and the mainland over the next two years.

The Hyatt's services include a dedicated concierge that will act as a liaison between meeting organisers and every department in the hotel. Special offers are also available through the Hyatt network with resort meetings, incentive packages and group reservation solutions tailored to each client.

Detailed event planner guides are available from the Hyatt's global resources with information ranging from what to ask on a site inspection when arranging a conference, to organising a golf tournament as a perk for delegates.

The 594-room Grand Hyatt Hong Kong also benefits from a direct walkway to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, ensuring delegates staying at the hotel can arrive timely and comfortably at events.

Crucially important to ensuring the comfort and ease of delegates is a concept launched by Hyatt Hotels and Resorts called The Residence.

It is a home within a hotel concept, with a series of interconnecting rooms catering to anything from two to 600 people.

Andreas Stalder, senior vice-president, product and brand development, Asia-Pacific, developed the concept.

'We wanted to create an ambience where people felt completely relaxed.

'Meetings are usually such dry, staid events, with everyone looking stiff and uncomfortable in their suits,' Mr Stalder said.

'At The Residence they can loosen their ties, perhaps kick off their shoes and develop a closer relationship with their colleagues or clients.'

The concept was originally tested in the Grand Hyatt Taipei.

However, it was successful enough to be rolled out shortly afterwards at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, the Hyatt Regency Hangzhou, the Grand Hyatt Beijing and the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.

Notable companies that have held various kinds of important events at Hyatt Residences include Microsoft, Intel, HSBC, Citibank, MasterCard, Merrill Lynch, LVMH, Chanel, Celine, Bulgari, Christian Dior and Chivas.
