Wild boar

A 120-kilogram boar was caught after running into a village house and injuring three men in Yuen Long yesterday.

The wild pig, which was about 1.3 metres long, chased after two dogs and rushed into the house in Ngau Tam Mei Road at about 2.30pm.

A police spokesman said the boar - which was eventually shot - bit the left hand of 76-year-old Mr Chan, who had armed himself with a baton and an axe in an attempt to catch it.

Mr Chan's 54-year-old son, who joined the chase, was bitten on the finger and a neighbour who also joined the fray suffered a minor injury to his foot.

The animal was finally locked in a store room and the father and son called police.

The three men were taken to Pok Oi Hospital for treatment.

Officers from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department were called in with a cage.

'It was not safe to shoot the boar in the house. We were trying to lure it into a cage,' a police officer from Lok Ma Chau police station said.

There was a standoff between the officers and the pig until about 7pm, when hunters from an amateur team were called in to shoot it.
