A primary school teacher has been arrested and sacked for installing two pinhole cameras in a room where pupils changed for dance classes.

The Mong Kok school said yesterday that the cameras were discovered by a dance teacher and a group of students on Tuesday night. One of the cameras was placed near the window, another near the door of the classroom at the Church of Christ in China Heep Woh Primary School, which has morning and afternoon sessions.

The principal of Heep Woh Primary School, Wong Yuk-tong, said it was found that the cameras were installed by a 32-year-old male who taught in the morning session.

Mr Wong said the teacher's explanation was that he had only wanted to film the dancing for future use in classes. 'But personally, I found the explanation very unconvincing.

'We dismissed him mainly because he was caught peeking. Such behaviour is a breach of professional conduct, and that is why we sacked him.'

A 10-minute tape was found showing about nine girls changing clothes in the classroom but it contained no obscene material and the school destroyed it to protect the pupils' privacy. It reported the case to police the same night.
