MARK McMahon's brilliant run in the World Indoor singles Championship was ended by three-time defending champion Richard Corsie last night.

Playing in the first semi-final at the Preston Guildhall, the Hong Kong player was beaten 7-3, 7-1, 2-7, 7-4 by the tournament favourite.

McMahon had beaten Corsie's compatriot, Graham Robertson, in straight sets in the previous round.

He was unable, though, to claim the scalp that mattered as Corsie looks destined to win his fourth title.

But he must have felt like he had done enough to convince doubters that he is still a world class players after being dropped for Hong Kong singles duty at August's Commonwealth Games in Victoria.

It was McMahon's second appearance in the semi-finals of the competition.

Corsie had earlier beaten Australian Ian Taylor in a five-set quarter-final thriller.
