International financial services company Credit Suisse is looking for professionals from a range of backgrounds to significantly increase its strong presence in Singapore.

Credit Suisse has been in Singapore since 1971 and employs more than 4,500 staff in the city state, about 10 per cent of the organisation worldwide. That number is set to grow substantially according to Kirstie Ellard, head of human resources for Credit Suisse, Asia-Pacific. She said Singapore was a critical centre for the company in terms of business strategy and its regional and global support operations.

'No other market is continuing to grow on the scale of Asia-Pacific, and a financial service is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the region,' Ms Ellard said. 'Our growth targets and the growing needs of our clients mean that we are actively looking for people across a diverse range of the bank's operations.'

The company is expected to recruit an additional 500 staff by the end of next year. Positions include private banking, asset management, investment banking and information technology (IT). Much of Credit Suisse's efforts focus on recruiting staff in private banking.

'Private banking is where we have done several innovative things in relation to getting talent, particularly young talent. One example of this is the 'Global Train to Relationship Manager' programme which brings on board and grooms our private banking relationship managers,' Ms Ellard said.

The company invests a lot in its campus strategy, which is important as it enhances its reputation in addition to attracting graduates. Also important for Credit Suisse is the diversity of the recruitment pipeline.
