The principal of one of five schools to lose funding for Form Four classes next year has vowed to fight to the end to keep students in his school.

'We are going to take this as far as our parents willing to go,' said Lee Wing-shing, principal of Buddhist Tai Kwong Middle School in Tai Po, who hinted at a possible escalation of the campaign.

'At the moment I can say little. We need to get parents' agreement before we take any further actions.'

Mr Lee said school officials would meet parents and students this afternoon to discuss survival strategies and collect signatures for a petition ahead of a planned protest.

'Our goal is full funding for our Form Four next year,' Mr Lee said.

The school - and the four others which failed to meet the minimum Form One admissions requirement in 2006 - has until Tuesday to tell the Education Bureau whether it plans to run self-financed Form Four classes or transfer its current Form Three students to other schools next year.
