Jamming is fun but Joanna Wang wants to go it alone in record making
Taiwanese singer Joanna Wang Ruo-lin joined British pop star Shayne Ward, Chinese-American rapper Jin Au-yeung and rock band Until June for a concert at the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre on Tuesday night despite the typhoon signal No 8 being in force.
The three-hour concert featured a blend of pop, jazz, rock and hip hop.
Wang (left), who is known for her husky voice - she is touted by her record label Sony BMG as Taiwan's answer to Norah Jones and Japanese bossa nova queen Lisa Ono - was the second artist to perform.
After performing several oldies, she spiced up the atmosphere by singing Spandau Ballet classic True in a duet with X-Factor winner Ward. The Briton was full of praise for Wang's 'great and smooth jazz voice'.
However, such collaboration is likely to be limited to the stage as Wang says she has no intention of extending it into the production of her records.
'Jamming [with other singers on stage] is fun but when it comes to making a record, I don't think I would choose to collaborate because I always find making a record incredibly personal.
