Get into the 80s groove

If you don't know much about 80s music, this double album is a good start. It covers all the bases from unforgettable pop anthems to throwaway novelty tracks.

Guaranteed to get you into the retro mood are Soft Cell's classic Tainted Love and Take on Me by Norwegians A-ha.

There are plenty of perfect party sounds including You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) by Dead or Alive; Groove is in the Heart by Deee-Lite and Love in the First Degree by the most successful girl band of the time, Bananarama.

Classic tracks for your iPod playlist are She Drives Me Crazy by Fine Young Cannibals, New Order's True Faith and Just Can't Get Enough by Depeche Mode.

The electronic music that took over the dance floors from disco is also included. Great examples are Yazoo's Don't Go and Erasure's A Little Respect.

Unfortunately, there are several one hit wonders used as fillers. Skip Holiday Rap by MC Miker G and DJ Sven and the truly terrible Japanese Boy by Aneka, who was mercifully never heard from again.

Thanks to the wonder of YouTube, you can have a laugh at the dodgy clothes and haircuts of the singers.

The album is a strange mix, and feels a bit like it was cobbled together to jump on the 80s revival bandwagon, but there's enough here worth a listen.
