Inadequate signs confuse passengers
Chaotic route changes and inadequate signage drew criticism from commuters after turnstiles at interchange stations were removed overnight to facilitate the so-called single journey ride following the merger of KCR and MTR rail operations.
At least 700 passengers who formerly had to leave the station and then re-enter it when switching rail lines were caught off guard by the new arrangement and had to be refunded after they exited at the interchange stations.
At interchange stations Kowloon Tong, Mei Foo and Nam Cheong, turnstiles were draped with yellow cloth and special routes marked with signs and arrows.
But in Kowloon Tong station, there was chaos yesterday morning as passengers, unaware that the station had been almost entirely redrawn as a paid area and that routes had been drastically changed, frequently made wrong turns.
'The instructions weren't clear enough, and more signs would help,' said passenger Anna Hollyman after she left the station by accident.
