Military might and cultural achievements epitomise Emperor Qianlong's imperial legacy
Internationally acclaimed for the stunning collections offered at auction, Sotheby's has again assembled an outstanding selection sure to satisfy seasoned collectors and enthusiastic buyers for this autumn's sales.
More than 1,100 items, with an estimated value of HK$1.5 billion, will go under the hammer next week at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The collections will be on public display in Hong Kong from tomorrow to next Tuesday and auctions will be held from Saturday to next Wednesday.
This year marks the first time Sotheby's will hold an evening auction. The inaugural evening sale of contemporary Asian art includes a selection of 20th century Chinese art. The evening auction will be held on Saturday.
Distinct from those sales are the contemporary Southeast Asian paintings and the Chinese fine art auctions.
In addition to the large selection of contemporary Asian artworks on offer, there are a wealth of flawless gems, which are part of the magnificent jewels and jadeite collection. There are a number of rare timepieces available in the important watches auction which this year also includes a charity event.
Sotheby's has partnered with adidas for the Sport in Art auction, which will be held on Sunday during the contemporary Chinese art auction. The proceeds will be donated to Right to Play China to help those affected by the Sichuan earthquake this year. The artworks for sale include some by sports stars such as David Beckham and Ian Thorpe.
