If you're into house music, you'll know DJ Disciple, and if you watch that reality show The Hills you'll have heard his music too. Strange but true - Disciple is one of those DJ-producers who straddle mainstream and underground so easily, you could accuse him of being a music snob and sellout at the same time.

Not that he's either - he's been in the music business 20 years as a DJ and producer of fresh and eclectic house; and through his label Catch 22 Recordings, continues to push new and underground talent to dance music's frontline. (Disciple - or David Banks (right) as he was born - wrote the lyrics to the song LA Girls with vocalist Caprice Menthlow and LA loved it so much, MTV had to stick it on their show).

He's practically a one-man ambassador of house and plays everything from disco to gospel house (according to his MySpace page, Jesus Christ has been a major influence, along with Spike Lee, Pacha and Jazzy Jerome). 'If I must categorise myself, I play across the board, with elements of garage, disco, Latin and harder house,' he says. His sets are soulful, eclectic affairs, and tear up dance floors at an impressive rate of at least 50 clubs a year.

'My touring schedule is still kind of hectic, but I've found time for even more missions, and I'm looking forward to venturing into uncharted territories this year,' he says.

Two of the hits that have put the Disciple name on dance charts worldwide are 2007's Changes and Work It Out, a pumping house track that blew up in Ibiza and had producer/DJ Pete Tong playing it for three months straight on BBC Radio 1. He's also a great guy to remix - the last Disciple release, Rise Up, became an underground anthem through various remixes and appeared on a compilation by well-known house DJ Roger Sanchez.
