Mouth watering The Hilton Beijing Wangfujing (www. wangfujing.hilton.com) has opened the first of its two signature restaurants. Vasco's is a fine-dining Macanese restaurant that offers great views across the city and a show kitchen during breakfast service. The menu, by chef Ricardo Bizarro, has Chinese, Indian and Portuguese influences, and includes marinated octopus on a bed of chickpeas, tomato and fresh parsley salad with fishcakes. And to prove that the imaginative can always think of a new gimmick to impress the impressionable, Vasco's boasts Beijing's first water master, who matches still and sparkling waters with dishes. Child-free fitness P&O Cruises ( www.pocruises . com) ship Pacific Sun has undergone a multimillion-dollar revamp, giving the vessel a new spa, the Oasis, which is billed as being 'child free', a gym with ocean views and a coffee bar. The library has been refitted so it can transform into an elegant steakhouse at night while the former gym is now a relaxation lounge for the ship's Lotus Spa, which is, presumably, popular with children. The Pacific Sun cruises the South Pacific out of Brisbane, Australia. Prices start at A$895 (HK$5,810) per person. Magic moments Take a moment over an intimate lunch of local delicacies in the surrounds of Libya's Leptis Magna amphitheatre, suggests Abercrombie & Kent ( www.abercrombiekent.com ). The luxury travel-service firm's brochure for next year, Inspiring Journeys, outlines more than 80 journeys, including a tour of the kaleidoscopic culture of Japan, a taste-bud-led jaunt through France and Spain and a run up the mountains of the Peruvian Amazon. Also included are 'moments', a range of activities designed to give travellers a closer connection to the world around them. MO in Boston The Mandarin Oriental Boston, which opens tomorrow, will rub shoulders with high-end retail shops and gourmet restaurants in the US city's chic Back Bay. Designed by Frank Nicholson, the hotel's 136 guestrooms and 12 suites boast subtle, golden-hued furnishings in silk and exotic woods and spacious marble or granite bathrooms with soaking tubs and rainforest showers. Situated on central Boylston Street, the hotel should be popular with both business and leisure travellers. Asana, a restaurant offering American and Asian dishes, and the M Bar & Lounge will keep guests fed and watered. Deal of the Week CX Holidays ( www.cxholidays.com ) and Dragonair have a wide range of packages for a cruise up the mighty Yangtze, the longest river in Asia, including the five-night Wuhan Viking Yangtze Upstream Cruise. With departures on October 19 and 29, the package starts from HK$6,560 per person and includes a one-way economy-class flight from Hong Kong to Wuhan and a one-way ticket from Chongqing to Hong Kong, both on Dragonair, five nights aboard the Viking Century Sky, including meals and excursions, accommodation, some transfers and travel insurance.
