Thievery Corporation
Radio Retaliation
(Love Da Records)
Washington, DC-based production mavens Rob Garza and Eric Hilton have always mixed some powerful medicine. Whether it be tracks worked into others' work - such as Kruder & Dorfmeister - or their own, including 2002's excellent The Richest Man in Babylon. And never have they come across so forcefully or with such a ripe sense of purpose.
Radio Retaliation lifts the Corporation out of the coffee shop with its political leanings, and gives the listener pause for thought, while never losing sight of the duo's pure skills for laying down deep grooves.
With some of world music's shining lights providing the backdrop, the boys have set their sights on the modern world's woes. In drawing on music from the likes of Femi Kuti and Seu Jorge, there is a wealth of talent at their disposal.
