Based on one of Dr. Seuss' classic rhyming stories, Horton Hears a Who! is a sweet parable about love and responsibility. Directed by Jimmy Hayward, the movie features a menagerie of jungle animals. Leading the pack with an iron fist is a female kangaroo who wants every one in the jungle to conform to rules and tradition. Horton (voiced by Jim Carrey) is a frisky elephant. He stumbles on the 'Who', a tiny speck crying for help. Horton is convinced there is a whole world inside the Who and resolves to protect it from danger. The tiny world inside the speck is called Whoville which is led by a mayor voiced by Steve Carell. Having enjoyed a harmonious existence for more than a century, the citizens of Whoville find their world literally upside down after the Who gets blown away by a breeze. Thanks to his exceptionally large and acute ears, Horton is the only one in the jungle who can hear the cries from inside the Who. The climactic scenes where everyone in Whoville blares trumpets with all their might to prove their existence to the sceptical animals are cut in a breathless way which sends your pulse racing. The philosophical message is that a whole world can be contained in a grain of sand. It leaves the viewer wondering about the smallness of self long after credits roll.
