What with the growing number of stay-at-home dads, power women in the office, male nannies and female chauffeurs, traditional gender lines have been blurred for some time now. It comes as no surprise then, that unisex scents are making a comeback from the '90s, when Calvin Klein first came out with CK One. These new infusions are reminiscent of scents used by the hippies in the '60s, when the same musks and oils were used by both men and women. Taking the middle road between floral, feminine scents and heavy masculine fragrances, these unisex products take on hints of incense and spices - woodsy enough to be worn by men but at the same time light enough to suit women. Aesop sourced nine ingredients from eight countries for the blend of woods, flowers and spices in Marrakech eau de toilette (HK$1,090). These base scents include jasmine absolute from Egypt, ylang oil from Madagascar, neroli oil from Morocco and rose otto from Bulgaria. This infusion of exotic spices comes in a sleek, no-nonsense bottle that looks at home on his or her bathroom shelf. Serge Lutens has another unisex release, Serge Noir (HK$750), a fragrance with notes of cinnamon, patchouli, amber and black woods. The earthiness of the fragrance will appeal to women, while the spices give it a slight masculine edge. Bulgari looks to the light and subtle scents of green tea with its Eau Parfumee au the vert (HK$645/50ml). This unisex fragrance has notes of orange blossom, bergamot, cardamom, pepper, rose, jasmine, coriander, green tea, oakmoss, beeswax and tonka bean, and subtly alludes to the delicate fragrance of green tea in a light green bottle.
