Stefano Passarello flirted with the elusive 15-minute mark but had to settle for a new course record of 15 minutes and 13 seconds in the final race of the AVOHK 5K Series at Bowen Road yesterday. AVOHK club officials were unsure what the former record was, but agreed it was much closer to 16 minutes than 15. 'I was trying to break the 15-minute mark because the Bowen Road course is flat and fast, however there were a lot of pedestrians and dog walkers on the course today, so I had to be very careful,' said Passarello, 27, who took the series title along with the win. The speedy Italian was followed home by compatriot and defending champion Roberto Veneziani, who was a distant 33 seconds behind. Jane Hodgskin won the women's race in a time of 19:18, and also claimed the series title.
