Unique in Taipa, and unusual anywhere, is a restaurant that is part of a temple, in this case the Tin Hau Temple next door. It is believed that the temple was built in 1845 with funds from local villagers who were compensated for fighting the pirates that preyed on the islands in those days. Tam Chai Yu Chun Seafood Restaurant's decor - reminiscent of the kind of Chinese eatery in a western country that serves chow mein and moo goo gai fan - doesn't seem to have changed much over the years. Nevertheless, the abalone is excellent, and although this is always a pricey dish, it is somewhat more reasonable than in most places. The other selections on the menu, such as clams, shrimp and other fresh seafood and chicken and vegetable dishes, are also reasonably priced. Open daily, noon to 3pm, 6pm to 11pm.
