Peak LookOut - International dining for everyone to enjoy
121 Peak Road, The Peak, 2849 1000
FARE International, with everything from lasagna Toscana and murgh vindaloo, to lobster bisque and Hainan chicken rice. AMBIENCE Upmarket casual and popular with tourists who come to enjoy the view. The outdoor area is romantic, particularly at night with fairy lights twinkling in the trees. Indoors is cheerful, verging on noisy if you are there at family friendly hours. COST About HK$500 each for three courses without wine. WHO TO BRING Guests from out of town or friends needing a break from the city. Also good for casual family celebrations. TURN-ONS The Smoky Bay oysters (HK$200 for six) were exactly as described on the menu - briny, salty and with a full flavour. The sauce of the lamb rogan josh was thick and flavoursome with just a touch of spice, the meat was tender and the potatoes fell apart at the touch of a fork. The portion of ribs, although a bit dry, were satisfyingly big and the accompanying fries were a pleasure. TURN-OFFS Being at one of Hong Kong's top tourist spots, the restaurant tries to please everyone with standard international favourites. We left feeling that the dining experience was generally uninspired. Despite having booked in advance, we were led to a table on the road side of the restaurant. They were happy to oblige when we asked to move to a table with a view, however. DRINKS An extensive list of reasonably priced New and Old World wines. The waiter's recommendation of a wine to accompany the oysters was spot on.
