ANY Red Indians strolling about the Peak yesterday (why ever not?) and looking down in the general direction of Causeway Bay could be forgiven if they thought that someone was trying to get in touch with them. For over at So Kon Po where the new Hong Kong Stadium will open for business on Friday, it was a day of ritual with smoke trailing up from various corners of the steel and concrete edifice as the blessings of the deities were evoked with burned offerings. Frenchman Jean-Michel Jarre - who arrived in town over the weekend but sans actress wife Charlotte Rampling who has a filming commitment back home - was at one such ceremony at the main entrance where a roasted pig was offered to appease godly appetites. Laser and sound genius Jarre, who will provide the star turn on the opening day, quickly got down to work. After taking some of his entourage on a quick sightseeing tour of the New Territories, he was back in the cavernous stadium overseeing a rehearsal with the Chinese orchestra which will be part of his show. Last night Keeping Posted attended a dinner hosted for Jarre by tycoon Allan Zeman at Cafe Deco high on the Peak (the Red Indians had left by then!) At the dinner we also met Jean Albert Butault who heads the French TV crew that is with Jarre. Interestingly Jean Albert had first met Zeman and his wife Charmaine on holiday in Thailand and was subsequently invited back to Hong Kong by the Zemans. That was several years ago. A few days ago Jean Albert called Zeman from Paris and told him that he was coming back to Hong Kong with Jarre and in appreciation of his kindness of many years back which he'd never forgotten he wanted to offer Zeman two tickets for the concert. They both had a good laugh down the line when Zeman told Jean Albert that it was his company, Arena, that was actually bringing Jarre to Hong Kong.
