Changes aim to avoid any melamine input
Two of China's largest dairy companies yesterday unveiled changes in their operations aimed at avoiding melamine contamination of their products.
Yili and Mengniu, both based in Inner Mongolia , said they would no longer collect milk from individual farms.
Yili vice-president Jin Biao said the company would weed out the suppliers from their production chain by the year's end.
The company would work with dairy-cow owners to set up a system to manage the animals and have them milked at company-run stations, according to Zhang Jianqiu, another Yili vice-president.
'This scandal has helped improve the quality standards of China's dairy industry. It's a good thing if you see it from this angle,' Mr Zhang said.
