While most female celebrities avoid talking about Edison Chen Koon-hei after the sex photo scandal in January, Maggie Quigley, best known as Maggie Q, has no qualms about standing by her 'very good friend'.
The US-based star (right) of Mission Impossible III and Die Hard 4.0 was in town this week to promote a video game. The actress who'd starred with Chen in Benny Chan Muk-sing's Gen-Y Cops in 2000, said she met him often in the US.
'I see him all the time. I've always supported him... What, he's no longer my friend because of the scandal? We're still friends.'
She dismissed reports that she too was involved in the scandal, saying the media was being unfair to her. '[The media] was like: 'We hope Maggie was involved, we wish Maggie was involved, maybe Maggie was involved' and at the end of the day, Maggie wasn't involved...
'Even if I were, I'd still talk about it. People go through things in their lives. Things come out, you make decisions, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not.'
She said it was time to lay the matter to rest and expressed sympathy for those involved. 'These girls [celebrities such as Gillian Chung Yan-tung] lost their jobs, they were put on magazine covers. How can you do that to someone? It's like kicking them when they're down.'
