A police constable has been fined HK$2,500 and had his mobile phone confiscated for bombarding a former girlfriend with more than 300 calls in a month.
Kowloon City Court yesterday heard that Chau Kai-yin, 25, bombarded his ex-girlfriend's mobile phone with 63 calls within 91/2 hours on May 27. Another day, he called her home phone 33 times.
In all, he made 340 calls to Chan Shuk-wai between April and May. He pleaded guilty to five counts of making persistent phone calls.
Principal Magistrate Andrew Ma Hon-cheung, said Chau's 'rather stupid act' would not only have caused his ex-girlfriend nuisance and inconvenience, it would also have put mental pressure on her, particularly as he was a member of a law enforcement agency.
But Mr Ma said he had taken Chau's voluntary work and job performance into consideration in sentencing. A probation report said Chau lacked experience in dealing with love affairs and problem solving.
His inspector rated his job performance as satisfactory, while his voluntary work was praised.
