Bomb squad presence a damp squib
THE Bomb Disposal Unit was out in force around lunchtime yesterday, with 11 navy-blue overalled officers, 10 boxes of equipment and even a sniffer dog dozing benignly in the back of one of the two police vans parked alongside.
This activity was taking place on the concourse leading to the Convention Centre, and in close proximity to one of the back entrances to the Grand Hyatt.
Since the Convention Centre was only playing host to delegates to the Cable and Wireless Federation seminar we doubt they could have been the focus of the explosive ordnance disposal's might.
So could their presence have had something to do with the fact that Princess Anne was in attendance at the Grand Hyatt? And we thought she was one of the more popular members of the British royal family.
