Director's financial woes lead to action
A senior Ministry of Land and Resources  official has been disciplined by the Communist Party for corruption as a crackdown on graft continues.
Lu Guoping  , director of the ministry's administration office, was put under shuanggui, a party disciplinary action, on Friday because of his 'economic problems', an official source said.
No details of the scale of the problems were mentioned.
Mr Lu, a 44-year-old geologist, had a promising career with a decade of experience in the ministry, the source said.
He used to be head of the ministry's research unit and a deputy director of the administration office.
The ministry is in charge of the planning and management of land-use rights as well as mineral and oceanic resources. It has the authority to allot the mainland's limited amount of land to meet demand from a booming property sector and sizzling economic development.
Mr Lu's case followed a scandal reported by mainland media involving three officials implicated for taking bribes.
Deng Zhan ,  61, former deputy administrator of the Ministry of Commerce's  department of foreign investment, was detained on September 26 after  more than a month under house arrest, 21st Century Business Herald reported.
His detention is believed to be linked to the case of Guo Jingyi ,  a deputy administrator of the Commerce Ministry's department of treaty and law. Mr Guo was put under shuanggui on August 13 for alleged corruption.
On Monday, Liu Wei, a deputy department head at the State Administration for Industry and Commerce,  was detained for his involvement in Mr Guo's case. Mr Liu oversaw the registration of enterprises with foreign investment, Caijing Magazine reported.
Early this week, state media also confirmed the fall of Huang Songyou ,  a vice-president of the Supreme People's Court, and Zhu Zhigang ,  a senior member of the National People's Congress. Both were believed to be under investigation for abusing their power.
Party leaders have admitted that the party faces a serious problem of corruption and have vowed tough punishment, including the death penalty, for law-breakers, but graft remains rampant.
