Among the more eclectic offerings at this year's New Vision Arts Festival is Kisaeng Becomes You, a collaboration between choreographers American Dean Moss and Korean Kim Yoon-jin.
The piece was inspired by the lives and poetry of the kisaeng, a group of women in Korea who for hundreds of years were slaves of the state, providing entertainment as artists and courtesans. This is a fascinating corner of history, but rather than providing a portrait of the kisaeng, Moss and Kim have drawn on themes inspired by their situation to examine parallels with contemporary life.
Combining theatre and dance, the work is experimental in form. The action is videoed throughout by the participants and projected on a screen above the stage.
