Chat led to stabbing: Crown
A CHAT with a beauty queen ended in jealousy and violence, the District Court heard yesterday.
The brother of Miss Aerobics 1985 kicked and stabbed the boyfriend of ATV's Miss Photogenic 1992 in a Lan Kwai Fong bar, the court was told.
Ma Ching-yeung, 30, assistant chairman of a land development company and a director of the Tai Sang Bank, and his co-defendant, Fong Chan-ning, 27, manager of a trading company, have pleaded not guilty to wounding with intent.
On August 2, 1992, Chu To went to Club 1997 with his girlfriend, Chan Ye-ming, then holder of the Miss Photogenic title in the Miss Asia-Pacific competition.
Ma's sister, Jane Ma, was Miss Aerobics.
The court heard that Mr Chu became upset after Ma began chatting with Miss Chan and an argument followed.
The argument escalated into a fight, and Mr Chu was punched, kicked and stabbed by Ma, Fong and another man, the court was told.
Mr Chu was taken to Queen Mary Hospital with injuries to his chest and legs.
The trial continues.
