LG's television department has been busy recently, launching both a plasma and an LCD series. The PG60 and the PG20 are plasma designs aimed at the budget market. The 42-inch PG60 garners special mention, having won the best of innovations award at the Consumer Electronics Show this year.
Listed at HK$14,800, the PG60 looks stunning. Instead of a frame, it uses single-layer technology to give the television the look of a seamless sheet of glass.
In addition, the speakers are nowhere in sight. LG teamed with audio firm Mark Levinson which placed the two-way four-speaker system inside the television, with the sound still projecting forward.
Watching The Polar Express, I could actually feel the train hurtling towards me and although the sound wasn't dynamic it still managed to be convincing. However, I suspect that the effect would have been different had the television been hanging from a wall.
Staying glued to the television for a few hours, particularly while playing video games, did not result in optical fatigue.
The PG60's 150Hz moving picture resolution means it not only offers crystal clear resolution, but can also display fast-moving images without any blurring.
