HEARING that Princess Anne was going to be attending a dinner hosted by the MTR (the things the poor royals have to do to justify their existence) Keeping Posted, together with our resident snapper, stood vigil at the designated place awaiting HRH who was due at 7.45 pm prompt.

Came the appointed hour and there was no sign of the royal dinner guest. But when at 7.55 the regal Rolls-Royce had still not pulled up, the photographer loudly exclaimed: ''She's late, isn't she?''.

That was all too much for a Buckingham Palace official forming the advance guard (we knew she was from Buck House because she was dressed for comfort rather than fashion).

Taking a few steps forward she retorted in clipped tones: ''Her Royal Highness is never late.'' But of course. It was the rest of us who had our watches out of synch.
