Japan's most beloved anime has been recast in 3D for the Nintendo DS in Dragon Ball: Origins, an action-adventure platformer and role-playing game (RPG).
Created by Game Republic and published by Namco Bandai, Origins goes back to the early adventures of monkey-tailed fighter Son Goku (above) from the original Dragon Ball series - inspired by classic Chinese novel Journey to the West.
The single-player game follows Goku and his friend Bulma around the world, as they overcome enemies and obstacles to collect the seven mystical Dragon Balls.
The story covers the time from their first meeting up to Goku's participation in the World Martial Arts Tournament. Complementing his fighting skills and amazing strength, speed and reflexes, Goku wields a magic stick and the Kamehameha - a special technique taught by his sensei, old Master Roshi (top), which releases a huge blast of chi, or energy.
Bulma can invent machines and weapons, helping the intrepid pair conquer the strongest enemies and overcome the trickiest of obstacles.
Players jump to and from platforms and over barriers. The RPG feature enables Goku to boost his power and skills as he gains experience, by defeating strong enemies. Players control Goku using the stylus on the console's touch-screen. Moving him to different stage maps is done by drawing lines or shapes. The controls might seem strange at first, but you get used to it.
