Samsung Electronics has introduced the world's first full-touch external screen in a clamshell smartphone. The Anycall G508 (right) has a 5-megapixel camera with face-recognition and image-stabilisation functions. Unlike Apple's iPhone and others, the G508 offers two displays. The touch-activated external screen gives a landscape view and access to music, radio and the photo album without the need to open the handset. Available in gold and silver, the Anycall G508 is priced at HK$3,480.

Fresh prints

More families are turning digital photos into lab-quality prints at home. Now Canon has added a personal touch with the Selphy ES3 compact photo printer (below right). Users can select from 50 creative frames and 30 pieces of clip art. There are also 12 layouts for designing calendars and photo albums. It supports the PictBridge printing standard, which allows for a direct connection to a digital camera or camcorder. The Selphy ES3 costs HK$1,980 at Fortress.

Dell has tossed its hat into the netbook market with the release of the Inspiron Mini 9 (below). Powered by Intel's Atom processor, it runs Windows XP and weighs just 1.03kg. It has a 8.9-inch LED display and built-in Wi-fi support. The Ubuntu 8.04 Linux operating system will soon be available as an option. In black or white, the Mini 9 is available at 3 Hong Kong and HGC - the mobile and fixed-line broadband services from Hutchison Telecom. The 3 Hong Kong package provides a two-year HK$228-per-month plan, with a HK$2,480 upfront payment, rebated over the contract's duration. The HGC residential broadband offer costs HK$256 a month with a HK$1,792 pre-payment. The Mini 9 costs HK$3,488 at the city's four Dell Customer Experience Centres.
