We paid nothing to settle: Emperor

Emperor Entertainment Group insisted last night that it had paid nothing in a legal settlement with actress-singer Isabella Leong Lok-sze.

The group said it had received a 'considerable and reasonable' sum when it sold the 20-year-old starlet's contract to independent third-party company Trump Art on October 31.

It added the decision to trade the contract was made solely on commercial considerations and rejected newspaper reports that it had shouldered all the legal expenses in settlement of the legal battle with Leong.

'We solemnly deny the inaccurate reports,' it said. 'Neither the group nor any party on its behalf paid any money as the cost of the settlement at any time.'

A legal battle over a breach-of-contract claim ended in an out-of-court settlement disclosed on November 2, the eve of a court hearing.

The group issued a statement saying it had sold all interests in the contracts - signed by her mother when Leong was 12 - to Trump Art and had not paid any money in the settlement.

Earlier that day, a publicity firm representing Leong said solicitors Arculli, Fong and Ng had settled the proceedings with Emperor Entertainment and Trump Art on November 1.

The firm said: 'Ms Leong is completely free to pursue her career as she wishes... As part of the settlement, Isabella is receiving a reasonable payment from Trump Art.'

It said she had not paid any money to settle the case.
