Caught in the Net by Civic Party stunt

Pan-democrats and government allies in the Legislative Council who sympathise with Lehman Brothers minibond victims found themselves victims of collateral damage yesterday. Their e-mail servers have been disabled by hundreds of messages from small investors, urging them to vote tomorrow in favour of invoking Legco's special investigating power against the government and banks over the incident.

'While I am very firm about voting in favour, I am not entirely happy at being unable to work with my e-mails all day. Helping people is one thing, but busting somebody else's e-mail account is another,' said independent democrat Joseph Lee Kok-long.

The campaign was organised by the Civic Party, which called on small investors to fill in a form on the party's website, forwarding their demands to all 60 lawmakers.

'To be fair, even our party's own staff have been deleting e-mails all day,' one Civic Party staffer said.
