The Pigeon Detectives' latest album, Emergency, is packed with upbeat rock and indie blends. The Pigeons are sometimes criticised for failing to produce truly innovative music, but with an increasing number of talented bands emerging, it's a tough job. But the band delighted music fans with their debut Wait For Me, setting a high bar for Emergency.
The sharp guitar riffs of Keep On Your Dress and I'm Not Gonna Take This contrast with the optimistic, bouncy sounds of Say It Like You Mean It. The brisk melodies and moody, emotional lyrics of Don't You Want To Find Out and You Don't Need It create a diverse and interesting album.
Emergency is evidence The Pigeon Detectives have grown, incorporating a greater variety of tones into their energetic, catchy songs, while maintaining their recognisable sound. There is clearly room for improvement. Whether you're a fan of The Pigeon's first album, enjoy other indie bands like Franz Ferdinand and The Fratellis or have yet to discover the genre, Emergency is worth taking note of.
