Bernhard Langer was once the king of his sport, but it was the sport of kings that took his breath away on Wednesday night.

The 1991 Hong Kong Open champ and his 18-year-old son Stefan (pictured), who is caddying for him this week, got their first taste of horse racing at Happy Valley.

'I had never been to the races anywhere in my life before. Happy Valley is a beautiful setting with all the buildings around the track. It almost looks surreal. It's like you can almost touch the buildings,' he said.

While some of Hong Kong's attractions are new to him, the Open is familiar ground.

'As the tournament is in its 50th year, I think people should be proud of the great history. There are not many tournaments that have been in existence for this long. A lot of great champions like Tom Watson, Peter Thompson and Greg Norman have won it, adding to its kudos.'
