The heroics of 14-year-old Jason Hak Shun-yat in making the halfway cut aside, the second round proved to be disappointing for local players with none of Hong Kong's other seven representatives qualifying for the final two days.
Reigning Hong Kong Amateur Close champion Roderick Staunton, who carded a fine 70 in the first round, crashed to a 77 to miss out by seven shots, while highly rated David Freeman, who earned his Asian Tour card at the beginning of the year, stumbled to a second consecutive 74 to finish a further shot adrift.
Fanling teaching professional Jovick Lee fired three birdies in a solid two-under-68, but a disastrous 79 on the first day meant it was a case of too little, too late for the 27-year-old who has played part time on the Omega China Tour this year. Lee finished alongside Staunton in a share of 127th on seven-over-par.
'The only difference was my putting,' said Lee, who played alongside former Hong Kong Open winner David Frost in the first two rounds.
'I made nothing in the first round, but finally found my stroke.'
Amateur Steven Lam Tsz-fung, 15, who made it into the field after finishing in a tie for second with Hak at last week's qualifying tournament, never really found his game in his round of 76, but enjoyed the experience of playing in his first Hong Kong Open.
