Firemen were battling a hill fire in Ma On Shan last night that had been burning since 1pm amid dry weather at Luk Chau Shan, close to the ecologically important site of Mui Tse Lam. Water bombs dropped by government helicopters during the afternoon failed to check the fire, which later split into two fronts of 600 metres and 800 metres heading towards Ma On Shan Country Park. There were no reports of injuries.
