The manufacturers of the Eee PC are bringing that concept to the living room with a new touch-screen model for the home.
The new Eee Top ET1602 features a 40cm touch screen that also serves as the main user interface, allowing you to navigate the menus with a stylus.
Due to the larger display, the Eee Top is obviously intended for use in the home. Having said that, it does offer some portability, in that you can move it about the apartment easily with the built-in Wi-Fi connection and integrated battery.
Technically, the Eee Top is very similar to the latest Eee PCs. Inside the casing is an Intel Atom processor running at 1.6GHz, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard disk drive.
The Eee Top runs Windows XP and features optimised Easy Mode software for the touch screen interface. There's also a microphone and an integrated webcam for audio and video messaging.
Based on the initial photos, the Eee Top is sleek and should fit nicely beside your TV. But practically speaking, few people sit within a metre of their TVs, so the touch interface won't really be that handy unless you have exceptionally long arms.
