The grass is specially engineered to resist compaction and wear by players as well as other users and vehicles - one of the strengths that keeps it in good condition, especially after concerts and similar cultural events.
More than 12,000 square metres of the grass has been used for the multi-million-dollar redeveloped stadium in So Kon Po.
The turf was grown in a nursery outside Guangzhou from March last year.
It came from the American seed ''Bermuda Grass'', a hybrid, and during the growing process it was regularly checked by experts from Dragages, the main contractor for the stadium.
