The theme for Thursday's Fine jewellery and Jadeite auction at the Island Shangri-La is 'Returning to Nature'. Bonhams chose this theme to highlight the natural and untainted stones which it has on sale this autumn.

'In a world where artificiality occupies every aspect of our lives, from the processed food we eat to the synthetic fibres we wear, we rarely question what is natural any more,' said Edmond Chan, head of Fine Jewellery at Bonhams Hong Kong. 'The same applies to the jewellery industry where it has become extremely difficult to find untainted stones. Hence, the immense appeal of the truly natural gemstone.'

Bonhams has gathered a special collection to reconnect jewellery lovers with the romance and meaning of buying natural rare gemstones and pearls.

A highlight of the collection includes Lot 591 - an unheated 4.02-carat Burmese vivid red ruby and diamond ring (HK$1 million to HK$1.5 million). The central cushion-shaped ruby rests in a brilliant-cut diamond two-tiered surround and bifurcated shoulders and is mounted in 18-carat white gold.

Other lots to look out for are Lot 592 - a fancy vivid orangey yellow 2.18-carat diamond and pink diamond ring in platinum and 18-carat yellow gold (HK$450,000-HK$650,000) and Lot 452 - a natural pearl and seed pearl necklace with brilliant-cut diamond surrounds and mounted in 18-carat white gold (HK$260,000-HK$360,000). Then there is Lot 644 - a 10.11-carat (Ex/Ex/Ex) diamond ring (HK$3.6 million to HK$4.6 million), which has a brilliant-cut diamond in a pave-set diamond gallery and shank mounted in 18-carat white gold, and Lot 624 - a pair of green jadeite and diamond earrings (HK$460,000-HK$560,000).
