Anyone unfamiliar with newspapers in the United States might think The Wednesday Chef (www.thewednesdaychef.com) an odd blog name but it happens to be the day most food columns are published in the nation's press. The person behind the blog, Luisa Weiss, isn't a chef in the true sense of the word (she's a home cook as well as a writer and editor) and she doesn't post only on Wednesdays but in the spirit of the blog, many of her culinary efforts are attempts to test recipes she finds in newspapers, primarily The New York Times and Los Angeles Times (she also covers her own recipes and those from cookbooks). She doesn't usually follow recipes precisely - she improvises, as any good cook should - and she gives her comments - positive or negative - on the results. It's best to ignore her attempts at photography; her photos don't really make you want to try the recipes because they're not terribly well taken. Her words, though, are entertaining: Weiss writes about her reasons for trying certain recipes instead of others, why she makes changes to them and she reveals a bit about her personal life.
