Kwong Shai-fu, 59, supports infrastructure spending to boost the economy, but he doesn't think giving shopping vouchers to the public is a good idea
The Bangkok international airport is closed because of anti-government protests. I think the Thai government is too weak, they don't seem to know what they are doing. But I don't support the protesters. Whether former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra or the current one, Somchai Wongsawat, they don't seem to like anyone in power.
I have been to Thailand, but it was 15 years ago. Even though they might have had protests in the past, they never bothered the tourists. Now they are closing the airport and it is big trouble for the tourists. It is ridiculous that the prime minister cannot land at the biggest airport in his own country.
The Thai government is a lame duck, almost like its Hong Kong counterpart. Why is the government always spending so much money on consultants? As if there is no talent inside the civil service.
Every time they put forward a feasible proposal they withdraw it as soon as there is a little opposition. For example, the maid levy. A two-year suspension is fine. They do not need to promise so soon that it is going to be suspended for five years. Who knows what will happen between now and then?
The government is also planning to launch more infrastructure projects. I think this can help the economy. Many construction workers have been laid off in Macau and they need jobs in Hong Kong. Infrastructure projects can also benefit other industries, so more people can earn money.
Some political parties are asking the government to give out shopping coupons of as much as HK$1,000. I think this is not feasible.
