Allan Zeman may be a business genius in Lan Kwai Fong which I seldom visit, but his idea of 'development' at Ocean Park [as chairman], troubles me a great deal.
He seems to equate development with profits.  I understand that there is a plan to  build three hotels at Ocean Park.
If the company goes ahead with this plan it is going to 'crowd out'  smaller  hoteliers.
It is their desire to  rejuvenate dilapidated and vacant factory buildings in Wong Chuk Hang, which has had the support of the government.
I recently visited Paris with my family.
We stayed in a boutique hotel there - a brilliant choice made by my two children after researching on  the internet.
While in Paris we quickly realised  that these small hotels have a lot more personality and are cheaper, more colorful and hospitable than the  five-star facilities provided by a big hotel chain.
Wong Chuk Hang is a good site for urban renewal, for development 'bottom-up', ideally, by entrepreneurs who are also long-time residents of Aberdeen and who will put their heart before their head because they grew up there and are attached to the place.
As it happens, I watch every day, from my balcony, in horror, the damage being done to  the hilltop at Ocean Park.
Much of its top layer is gone forever, together with the trees, shrubs, birds, butterflies, and bees.
Would Mr Zeman please tell us what  is happening at  the park?
You owe the residents of Aberdeen an explanation and a precious piece of nature.
Ocean Park has a  mandate to support nature  conservation and ecological education.
When faced with a possible conflict between business and education and between tourists and local residents, Mr Zeman seems to favour business and tourist needs.
Why would any Hongkonger want to stay in  Ocean Park's hotels? I know that I will not.
Ocean Park has no business getting involved in the hotel business.
