Walking a mile with Clinton as Hillary starts a journey
Nancy Sinatra famously sang These Boots Are Made for Walkin', but former US president Bill Clinton has proved that boots are made for talking, too.
Hundreds of Clinton Global Initiative delegates were seen carrying bags containing a pair of Timberland hiking boots at the Grand Hyatt yesterday, courtesy of the bootmaker, which is a business partner of Mr Clinton's foundation.
All delegates had to do was give their shoe size to the Timberland staff and a pair of boots made from recycled materials and worth about US$240 was handed over.
Not bad, but then to become an Asian delegate it cost about US$5,000 to join the foundation, although that is dwarfed by the US$20,000 US members have to pay.
But even that is a fraction of what it costs to get an audience with Mr Clinton. His foundation encourages members to show long-term commitment to projects by sponsoring programmes for around US$1million.
